Our work: Rice

Our purpose is to help African food processors grow. Here is a selection of our work: who supported it, what we did and what changed.

Rice mills compete with imported rice, and many run on thin margins with uneven quality and little marketing. A mill run as a business holds its customers and keeps demand for local paddy. For the GIZ MOVE project we designed and delivered the Rice Miller Business Academy: four courses on marketing, milling operations, finance and services for farmers, followed by coaching on each mill's own priorities. So far 42 mills in Ghana, Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Côte d'Ivoire have taken part, supported by 28 local coaches we trained and backstopped. GIZ MOVE has adopted the academy-plus-coaching model for further rollout.
