Our work
Our work: Fish
Our purpose is to help African food processors grow. Here is a selection of our work: who supported it, what we did and what changed.

Fish is a key source of protein in Malawi, and wild catches are under pressure. Farmed fish can fill part of the gap and create rural jobs, but only if farms and the businesses around them make a return. We carried out a gendered aquaculture value chain assessment across eight districts, engaging 161 stakeholders, and built financial models for four types of operation, from small ponds to hatcheries. Fish deaths, feed costs and a shortage of fingerlings hold profit back most. We set out an upgrade pathway for women, from better production to aggregation, processing and higher-value markets.
